Name of blog?
Some of you might wonder, what does the name "Princess in a Hat" have to do with anything? Well, I had originally started this blog just as a something to ramble on. My mom had the idea of naming it Princess in a Hat because I love hats and since I am a child of the King, that makes me a princess! The name kind of stuck and I didn't want to change it. So there you have it!

Movie Poll
I added another poll on my blog! On this one you can select your favorite genre of movie. (I added several more genres of movies than I did books because I noticed a lot of people voted "other". So if you want to vote, your favorite genre should be there. However, if it isn't, you are free to leave a comment here about what it is!)

The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker
The first book I am going to review is The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker. It is a thriller, like most of his other novels. It may not be appropriate for young readers.
Light and dark. Good and evil. Hope and fear. These are opposing forces of our world. And Quinton Gauld believes he is doing good by murdering seven beautiful young women. Trying to stop him is FBI agent Brad Raines. But no matter what he does, Brad cannot seem to catch up to the serial killer only known to him as the Bride Collector. That is, until he meets mental patient Paradise.
Main Characters:
Meet Brad Raines. Handsome, FBI agent. After a tragic past with a girl he loved, he is starting to feel for Nikki Holden, forensic psychologist. He is the agent in charge of the Bride Collector case. He tries to predict the killers' pattern, to discover who is the murderer. He believes the Bride Collector does what he does not out of rage, but out of love.
Paradise is a young schizophrenic patient at Center for Wellbeing and Intelligence. She has agoraphobia, the fear of leaving a safe place. Which is exactly why she hasn't left the center in seven years. When Brad finds out that she has a "special gift", he wants to enlist her help in finding the killer. Together Brad and Paradise look for the crazed killer as they grow closer and discover a bond they didn't realize was there.
Quinton Gauld does believe he is doing good. He thinks that he is an angel sent from heaven, to finish work God has desired for him. Which is killing, so far, 4 beautiful, flawless women. His mission is to send three more up to be with God, therefore killing a total of seven, the perfect number. Next on his list: Nikki Holden.
What Quinton doesn't realize at first, is he is doing the exact opposite of God's work. He is doing the devil's work. All he wants is revenge. His dark soul commands him to do evil. As Brad and Paradise try and stop him, they get a glimpse into his black, ill mind.
One theme in this book is light versus dark, good versus evil. At first, Paradise does not realize that it is not just a physical battle. She doesn't know they both need to be free from the darkness that already has the Bride Collector in its clutches. In a final showdown of good versus evil she releases the bitterness she has against the killer, and then
Well, I can't tell you the end! You are just going to have to read it for yourself.

New purpose
For a while I stopped blogging. You might have noticed. I didn't really know what to do with my blog. But I finally decided on something.
I don't know about you, but I spend quite a number of hours each week reading and watching movies. Is this a good way to spend my ever-fleeting time? I've decided to discover the answer to that question.
I will be paying more attention to the books I read and the movies I watch. I'll be delving into their meanings, to the true purpose of the page and the movie screen. Do they really have positive messages or do they just look cool on the outside with all the fancy new graphics? Will they have a good effect on me, or just waste part of my life? I'll try and answer these questions and more with my "new and improved" blog!
